Subsurface drip irrigation (SDI): principles, best practices, and keys to success for a sustainable installation

Subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) is currently one of the most efficient and sustainable irrigation techniques. It offers all the advantages of drip irrigation while avoiding any clutter on the ground, thus facilitating mechanization. Drip irrigation allows water and fertilizer to be directed directly to the root zone, optimizing agronomic efficiency while reducing water loss and evaporation.

Cavaillon goes wireless for smarter irrigation and greener public spaces

The municipality of Cavaillon wanted to modernize its irrigation infrastructure in several green spaces, with the aim of reducing the number of controllers and centralizing watering operations. The goal was clear: to replace obsolete controllers and unify the city's irrigation management under a single cloud-based solution: the Hydrawise® irrigation management platform.

The EIA creates an impact through its Working Groups

In order to implement its projects, the EIA is supported by a structure of 6 Working Groups (WGs). Each WG consists of a group of experts, members of the EIA, who focus on a strategic topic of interest. The objective of each WG is to promote the topic for which it is responsible. In 2021 we have 6 working groups: Sustainability in Agriculture, Urban Landscaping, Standardization, Training and theTransfer of Knowledge, Wastewater and Communication. The working groups are restricted to EIA members and each member can choose one or to participate in one or two Working Groups”

POSITION PAPER – Irrigation: the missing link in Europe’s Water Resilience Strategy

The European Irrigation Association (EIA) welcomes the European Commission’s Water Resilience Strategy (WRS) as a timely and necessary initiative. EIA supports the Strategy’s ambitions to enhance both quantity and quality of water resources, and to build a ‘Water-Smart’ economy based on the ‘Water Efficiency Principle’.
