The European Irrigation Association (EIA) held on October 13, 2022  a virtual Autumn Irrigation Forum.

The European Irrigation Association (EIA) held on October 13, 2022  a virtual Autumn Irrigation Forum.

During 1.5 hours session, 57 participants from all over Europe attended very interesting presentations which main themes were sustainability and innovation.

This time we learnt more about two subjects:

  • Irrigation Innovation and Smart Eco-centric Revolution / Sustainability 4.0.
  • IOT and Machine Health for center pivots.

Moshi Berenstein, EIA President started by an introduction about General EU Economy update : “Recent this summer’s climatic events and the expected climate change heavily impact agriculture. This will moderately increase the water demand. In this contest, more robust water management and policies are required in order to manage the competing demand between agriculture and other sectors (energy, conservation and human settlements). A shift from the gravity irrigation to modern pressurized systems (e.g. drip and sprinkler irrigation) and improved network efficiency provide an opportunity for reduced water demand in irrigation, but at a cost and with possible negative side effects (impacts on soil quality)”.

Then, Moshi up-dated on the 6 working groups of the Association.

Fleur Martin, EIA Communication Officer, welcomed the 4 new members, who have recently joined the EIA :

This introduction was followed by 2 presentations :

  1. Guest Speaker: Amir H. Noferesti, Consultant – Irrigation Innovation and Smart Eco-centric Revolution / Sustainability 4.0. An academic approach to Innovation in Sustainability Evolution toward becoming more efficient during the evolution of Agriculture, industrialization, Water Management.
  2. Innovation & Technology session – Bruno Perroni, Lindsay : IOT and Machine Health for Zimmatic pivots.

The presentations were followed by an interactive questions and answers sessions and the association’s General Assembly.

The success of the EIA Irrigation Forum demonstrates the increasing interest of industry professionals to be involved, to learn and to have more information on European trends in our industry, sustainability, new technologies and water policy frameworks.

For those who are not yet members, we invite you to join EIA, to promote the continued development of irrigation products, practices and services, and to advocate for sustainable industry standards and water management policies that lead to a stable legal environment for irrigation professionals.
