Taxonomy • Call for feedback on EU taxonomy published

As already announced in a news alert sent on 16 January, the European Commission published a call for feedback on preliminary recommendations for the review of the Climate Delegated Act and the addition of activities to the EU taxonomy.
The Platform on Sustainable Finance (advisory body to the European Commission, composed of private stakeholders, NGOs, civil society, academics, think tanks, public organisations) was tasked to reviewing and potentially recommending revisions to the technical screening criteria of the economic activities included in the Climate Delegated Act.
The Platform notably screened 169 new activities to include in the EU taxonomy, among which Irrigation, and Waste-Water Treatment.
The Platform pointed a series of activities that should be included in priority in the EU Taxonomy, which includes:
- “Equipment increasing water use efficiency: Water use efficiency is a major concern for all water-intensive industries as the physical impacts of climate change are increasing”
- “Nature-based solutions enabling climate change adaptation: Nature-based solutions can provide multiple benefits for climate change mitigation and adaptation, sustainable use and protection of water and marine resources, pollution prevention and control, and biodiversity and ecosystems, and can be substantially more efficient than technical solutions”
The document is still a working document and has to be finalised by the Platform. The final version will be handed to the European Commission to help its representatives in the process of updating the Climate Delegated Act and EU Taxonomy activities. It is therefore an interesting means for stakeholders, such as EIA, to provide relevant information to the European Commission and enhance the chances for your claims to be adopted by the Commission.
The Platform has called all interested stakeholders to provide feedback on the draft report, until 5 February.
