EIA Working Group Sustainability Agriculture held a Meeting on Oct 3rd  2023

The EIA’ s president Moshi Berenstein and Giusy Inferrera welcomed the participants and and discussed the various ongoing activities of the working group.

 

  1. Certification labels

EIA’s draft definition of sustainable irrigation the notes for discussion addressed to Ambrosetti House have been described and shared with the most recent members

Updates on the correspondence between the two projects provided: Ambrosetti House is preparing a technical dossier for the taxonomy project which will be useful also for the certification project. After the completion of the taxonomy project, the results will be used to continue the labelling process assessing the different stakeholder opportunities in the certification process, for ex. including the contribution by the farmers to better understand their current and future needs.

 

  1. EU Taxonomy

Follow up on the project with Ambrosetti House:

Ambrosetti house prepared a technical dossier together with the Project Team to support the Working Group in developing technical criteria for the activities defined. The working group is working to define the technical criteria following two parallel approaches: industrial-based and user-based.  

Ambrosetti House is starting to draft the Position Paper in parallel to the analysis and definition of criteria.

A communication meeting was held by the EIA, as Fleur Martin explained, to define the strategy. Discussions are under way to find the right communication line before the publication of the position paper and after the publication.

 

  1. Plastic collecting and recycling in agriculture.

 

Ido Raanan, Leader of the group “sustainable plastic use in irrigation WG” (PWG) updated the group members about the activities on APE partnership for end-of-life management for irrigation products (specifically accessories). Discussions with APE are under way for a possible collaboration. The EIA is assessing the opportunity of a customer-based survey to collect data regarding the needs of the farmers for the collection of accessories. Next steps: assessing the feasibility of the survey and its exact content.

 

  1. Side event in the World Water Week (https://worldwaterweek.org/programme-2023/theme-2023/2023-thematic-scope) left to be discussed:

We are assessing the possibility to participate in 2024, best would be presenting the position paper on this occasion.

Updates by the communication WG on how to improve EIA’s marketing through its members’ promotion in order to increase the budget for possible future participation.
