EIA and ESCP Business School Join Forces to Explore the Future of Irrigation Markets

The European Irrigation Association (EIA) has launched a new collaboration with ESCP Business School, one of Europe’s leading institutions in management and business education, as part of the school’s Consulting Dynamics & Practices programme.

This academic–industry partnership brings together irrigation professionals, market expertise and future business leaders to explore how the irrigation sector is evolving in response to climate pressure, regulatory frameworks and changing economic conditions across Europe.

The collaboration is rooted in a shared observation: irrigation is no longer only a technical issue. It sits at the intersection of water resilience, public policy, innovation, investment and market competitiveness. As water scarcity intensifies and sustainability requirements become more stringent, irrigation solutions are increasingly shaped by economic viability, business models and regulatory alignment.

Through this project, ESCP students will work alongside the EIA to analyse key market drivers, barriers and opportunities linked to irrigation and water management. The objective is to better understand how companies, public authorities and stakeholders can adapt their strategies to remain competitive while contributing to environmental objectives.

By combining academic consulting methodologies with the EIA’s sector knowledge and network, the collaboration aims to generate insights that are relevant for decision-makers across the value chain — from manufacturers and service providers to municipalities, investors and policymakers.

For the EIA, this initiative also reflects a commitment to knowledge-sharing and capacity building, while engaging with the next generation of professionals who will shape future water and irrigation markets. For ESCP students, it offers hands-on exposure to a sector where sustainability, regulation and business performance are increasingly interconnected.

This collaboration highlights the growing importance of strategic thinking in irrigation, where innovation must be supported by robust economic models and a clear understanding of market dynamics to deliver long-term impact.
